Dr Sophia Zadelis
Dr Sophia Zadelis is a radiologist who has subspecialised in breast imaging and diagnostic breast assessment. On completing her radiology training, Dr Zadelis did a Breast Imaging Fellowship and has worked solely in breast imaging, screening and diagnostic services since.
Before co-founding the Australian Breast Centre, Dr Zadelis was a radiologist at Central and Eastern BreastScreen. During her tenure, she was involved in screen reading, assessment and biopsy clinics, radiologist reviews and case reviews. She was also responsible for clinical, imaging and pathology correlation by liaising with an experienced multidisciplinary team.
Dr Zadelis has worked in busy diagnostic breast services assessing symptomatic patients for over a decade. Her expertise lies in reporting mammography, performing/interpreting breast ultrasounds, discussing clinical findings with surgeons, and lesion biopsies (fine needle, core, and vacuum-assisted biopsy) under ultrasound and mammography or clinical guidance. In addition, she is an expert at correlating all information with the pathologist and clinician to reach a conclusion regarding further management and to exclude/diagnose breast cancer. More recently, Dr Zadelis has been gaining experience in understanding the value, benefit and use of breast MRIs for certain cases.
Breast imaging/assessment aims to exclude/diagnose breast cancer as early, quickly and least traumatically as possible and explain symptomatology. A compassionate expert, Dr Zadelis recognises that breast assessment is a very stressful and emotive experience for women. Therefore, she always aims to minimise this stress as much as possible while reaching an accurate diagnosis using appropriate tests and avoiding unnecessary procedures.
Dr Zadelis regularly speaks at breast imaging and multidisciplinary breast cancer meetings and runs breast ultrasound workshops to upskill others.
