What is Euflexxa®

Euflexxa® is a highly purified solution of 1% sodium hyaluronate. It is used to treat pain in synovial joints that is associated with osteoarthritis. This is done by improving the joint viscoelasticity, lubrication and cushioning.

Where is Euflexxa® injected

Euflexxa® is injected in the following joints:

ankle
knee
hip
shoulder
elbow
wrist
the base of the thumb

Euflexxa® contraindications

Euflexxa® is contraindicated in patients who:

Have a known hypersensitivity to hyaluronate
Have a known infection in the effected joint; and
Have any skin infection or skin disease in the area of the affected joint.

Procedure

The patient has a cortisone injection into the affected joint, this reduces the inflammation of the joint preparing it for the injection of Euflexxa®. 1–2 weeks after the cortisone injection a series of 3 Euflexxa® injections are done at 1–2-week intervals.

Euflexxa® is used

Euflexxa® is used in the treatment of pain for patients who have osteoarthritis.
It mimics the body’s natural joint fluid and improves viscoelasticity, joint lubrication and cushioning.
